The Sound of Sirens

Hello sirens, my old friends...

Last night I didn't sleep so well because of the following random noises:
1. Alarms. Most of the garages in our vicinity have sirens to alarm if the doors don't close (at least this is my theory and educated guess). I could hear one garage door open, the alarm go off, the garage door slam shut, then the garage door open, the alarm go off, and on and on and on.

2. Someone chopping wood. Huh?

3. Someone walking their barking dog in the middle of the night.

I suppose it's not quite as interesting as falling mangoes. But today, we have sirens and alarms galore. At least 20 times already this morning, the alarm at the office building next door has been going off. I took this video from our living room window. What you see is the 14 story apartment building being built, and the video is taken through the protective netting on the windows. Matt's practicing cello in the background. Welcome to our Sunday:

  1. You are too nice, I would go downstairs with a hammer looking for the source of insanity!
I am sure the next alarm installed would be well calibrated and not go off all the time... :)

  2. By the way, there are laws against this kinds of abuse, but it's up to you to complaint if you are bothered...
What enfuriates me is all the other people who are also listening to it and do nothing...
A complaint to your sindico should be enough, if not, let them know next time this happens they will be talking to your attorney.

  3. Shelley,
At first I thought the siren was part of the piece Matt was playing!

  4. My husband went down before I posted, but nobody was there. It's the building next to ours, that has a business, and of course no one is there! Thankfully it stopped shortly after I posted!! But we will be complaining!

  5. I often think I hear garbage trucks in the middle of the night... like the kind we have in the U.S. I'm pretty sure it's something else, but I'm always too tired to get up and check it out.

  6. We live directly across the street from a very popular restaurant. The noice of the city's garbage collectors at 2:30 am every morning was horrendous. Multiple neighbors complained. Now the restaurant contracts a private garbage collector with improved bins - we still hear the men/trucks, but it is WAY better.
